Park Himmelrych – Sculpture Park

Park Himmelrych – an achievement for the public

In a letter from 1899 to the municipality of Zurzach, Jakob Zuberbühler stated,“that it is my serious intention to turn the entire ‘Himmelreich’ into a truly beautiful park, in order to make it available with pleasure to the municipality of Zurzach and to visitors from elsewhere. This is my sincere wish to contribute something to Zurzach…

In continuation of this pragmatic declaration, after the takeover by the Park Himmelrych AG a good 120 years later, the opportunity to stroll through the castle park has once again been made possible as a first step. The beautiful, slightly overgrown park is intended to offer the public and interested visitors a very special open-air experience, providing the chance to find relaxation and creative inspiration on the dreamy castle grounds – entirely in the spirit of its original creator.

Recently, the third edition of the sculpture exhibition „Aufatmen im Park“ was opened. It additionally invites visitors to linger, marvel and dream.

Among the artists are internationally renowned and successful figures such as Carl Bucher, Susi Kramer, Silvio Mattioli, Veronika Dierauer, Kurt Laurenz Metzler, Erwin Rehmann and Thomas Santhori, as well as regional greats such as Peter Bachmann, Hans Russenberger, Behrouz Varghaiyan, Daniel Waldner and Gillian White.
Their works show that modern artworks are not primarily intended to “depict a piece of nature” – as in earlier centuries – but rather aim to be a new creation. Creations that, although analogous to the great creation, follow their own inner laws and, for precisely that reason, do not wish to be mere copies of it.
